This past Saturday, we were sitting and knitting in the shop and one of the knitters asked what was upcoming for Monday: Make This! I didn’t really have an answer. Sometimes the muse doesn’t strike until the eleventh hour. I thought about socks: I’d been eyeing a new yarn in the shop, Frog Tree Pediboo, a tightly twisted blend of 80% superwash merino and 20% bamboo, and this was a perfect excuse to play! I grabbed one skein in a bright neon lime, and set about my self-imposed challenge: to see if I could finish a pair of socks in a couple of days.
I’m not a competitive knitter: for me, that energy totally defeats why I knit in the first place. But I’m up for making a pair of socks in a weekend. With all the yummy yarn possibilities, that’s more of a treat than a task! So knowing I had set myself an almost impossible deadline I made a few choices along the way: I used this video to review cast on for 2-at-a-time, this pattern as a basic blueprint, and made some minor mods. Anklets with a pretty lace rib would have a decent chance of being finished: a short cuff and a variation in pattern were enough to keep me interested.
All good right? Yeah seemed so and the socks were heading toward the homestretch: 2 more repeats of the lace rib pattern, toe shaping and done! Pretty straightforward. Not quite. Monday morning I put my socks down for a minute to make this and burned my forefinger in some very hot oil. Very. Hot. It didn’t stop me from enjoying some really delish breakfast but my knitting definitely stalled for a minute. But obsessive-compulsive that I am, here they are, completed and already co-opted by my daughter who finds them just as cozy as I expected. Time to make another pair: I think the raspberry color is calling me…

I so want to do this! LOL! I am sorry about the burn..but these ankle socks look perfect!!
Wait the banana bread french toast is so going on my list! I am so very sure I love you!! =)
Double yum, on the socks and the bread. Sorry about the finger. But I wish I’d been there for breakfast.
Meera they look beautiful and the link to the video is wonderful! Thanks for posting.
I think they make great foot warmers. I’ll be in today or tomorrow to get the yarn & go over the pattern with you.
Great booties! My daughter would love these! Added to my ever growing queue.
Congratulations on your success! Who knew knitting socks could be so dramatic! Thanks for sharing the video and pattern. I’m not sure I’m ready to take it on, but ya never know.
